Dear Students,



Our IT department, Campus IT Services (CITS), will be carrying system maintenance on 26 Apr 2023 (Wed) from 1am to 6am.

During the above mentioned period, you may not be able to login to Canvas Learning Management System (canvas.suss.edu.sg) and SUSS Backpack mobile app intermittently. You may like to avoid using these services during the maintenance.

When the maintenance is over but you still encounter difficulty with your login to Canvas or Backpack, please follow the following procedure to clear your browser cache and cookies:

1. On your computer, open Google Chrome.
2. At the top right, click .
3. Click More tools> Clear browsing data.
4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
5. Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
6. Click Clear data.

In the student orientation mobile app, there is a workshop registration icon, which you might have missed out.

Learning Systems & Application (LSA) department is pleased to inform you that we will be conducting hands-on workshops for our new SUSS students this coming Saturday, 19 Jan in the morning and afternoon.

Load Turnitin Submission in a New Window

Dear Students,

Learning Services Support have received feedback that some of you are unable to see the "continue" button to complete your Turnitin assignment submission.

The screen capture here reflected that the "continue" button located at the bottom right of the page is not visible.

We have investigated and confirmed that the issue is tied to the computer screen resolution.

To work around the issue, please click here to watch a short video on how you can reduce your browser size.

Alternatively, you can also use your keyboard to reduce the browser size.

- For Windows PCs- press and hold the Control key (CTRL), then press minus (-) to reduce the Zoom percentage to 75% or lower

- For Mac- press and hold the Command key (the key besides space key), then press minus (-) to reduce the Zoom percentage to 75% or lower

If you have returned from China from 14 Jan 2020, we request that you observe a 14-day LOA, monitor your temperature and stay away from the campus *.

Dear Colleagues,

Starting from Jul 2018, SUSS has changed our web conferencing tool, named as Virtual Class within Canvas, from Blackboard Collaborate to Zoom.

Zoom (https://zoom.us/) was chosen based on its ease-of-use in terms of user experience as well as their useful functionalities in fulfilling teaching and learning needs.

At SUSS, instructors can use Zoom to schedule and conduct online classes or just to meet-up with students for consultation sessions virtually.

These are some features that instructors will find useful:
1. Schedule online lesson with students from wiithin Canvas. Meet your students online with full control over video & audio
2. Record the online lesson for students to playback in Canvas. Mobile devices are supported
3. Display documents, websites, or perform a software demo and show your desktop online for teaching purposes
4. Conduct a poll to gauge understanding of the lesson
5. Facilitate rich discussions by breaking your students into smaller groups, with video & audio
6. Annotate on documents and allow your students to do so together

Learning Systems & Applications (LSA) will be conducting the technical-know-how workshops for teaching associates and faculty staff to get familiarised with the use of Zoom.

We have checked and discovered that the past scheduled sessions were deleted by a few instructors.

The past scheduled sessions are linked to the recordings and that is the only channel whereby students can access within Canvas.

Thank you very much for your patience while the vendor resolved the issue on the availability of recordings within Virtual Class (Zoom).

We are pleased to inform you that the issue is resolved and recordings have been available as of 18 Sep (Tue) 1.30pm.

Students (or accounts with student role in Canvas) are able to view the recordings for Virtual Class (Zoom).

Students are informed as well.

The vendor has been alerted to provide us an incident report on why an update to the integration within Canvas caused this unnecessary problem and their measures to prevent occurrences.

SUSS classrooms are equipped with facilities (classroom recording system) to record your classes automatically.
The recorded video will be uploaded and made available in your Canvas course the following day under "Classroom Recordings" course tab on the left.

As an instructor, you might have been informed that your classes have been selected for recording.
LSA has produced a video guide to help you facilitate a smooth recording session.

Taking this opportunity, LSA would like to bring your attention to recordings in Block A and B venues.

While the aged video capture card is pending system upgrade, the recording must be performed on a 1024x768 screen resolution to prevent truncation.
The desktop PC in the room has been set. However, if you are using your own laptop and will be teaching in Block A or B venue, please help to ensure that your screen resolution is set to 1024x768.

There is a technical issue in Turnitin wherein Course Instructors are not able to download the submitted assignment files.

We have reported the matter to the Turnitin vendor and are seeking their assistance to resolve the matter.
We will update you as soon as the issue is resolved.

In the meantime, as a temporary workaround you can download one assignment file at a time by clicking on the 'download' icon for each submission record.

GBA Grouping in UniSIM Gradebook

Dear Associates,

This is important. Appreciate if you could spend some time reading through this message.

We have noticed that many of you did not create student groupings for Group-Based Assignments (GBA) in Canvas UniSIM Gradebook.

The grouping information is highly critical for onward marks allocation to the various student groups and payment process for markers when the scores are transferred back to Student Information Management System(SIMS).

We would like to seek your kind assistance to ensure student groupings are duly created for all GBA assignments in Canvas UniSIM Gradebook before you confirm the marking process to Stage 2.

5. Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
6. Click Clear data.

Affected Date & Time: 15 Feb (Fri), 11.00pm to 16 Feb (Sat), 12.30pm.

Dear Colleagues,

Turnitin has scheduled a 30 min system maintenance on 28 Oct 2018 (Sun) from 5.00pm to 5.30pm.

During this mentioned maintenance period, these services will not be available.

1. Access Turnitin to view and download your students' submissions.

2. Submission of assignments by students.

For point 2, we have informed all students not to submit assignments during this 30 min time slot.

Google Chrome browser has a recent update that heightened the security level for accessing online content.

Arising from this, you may encounter an error message when you view content in Canvas.

To better your experience in accessing learning content, we would recommend that you set the Chrome browser settings as specified in the document HERE.
